Born on the wild side

Aboard the Queen

The Kubu Queen Houseboat is powered by twin 60HP 4 stroke motors and gets most of her energy from the sun. The Kubu Queen is a double decker houseboat with double cabin accommodation and a galley located downstairs with the lounge and dining area upstairs. Larger groups are accommodated in "Old Africa Safari" style tents on islands.
The boat sleeps a maximum of 6 guests in three rooms but extra accommodation can be made with pre-set up tents. The boat is chartered to one group at a time for their exclusive use. So privacy, exclusivity, flexibility and remoteness are the key elements of this experience.
  • 2 x double cabins
  • 1 x open air bedroom (upper deck with 2 single beds - mosquito nets provided)
  • Well-equipped galley
  • Lounge/bar
  • Spacious shower/toilet facilities
  • Two tender boats
  • 220v electrical system

The environment

The houseboat is moored on the mainland in the Panhandle of the Okavango, near the town of Shakawe, North West Ngamiland, Botswana. It is easily accessible by tar road and Shakawe has a small international airport suitable for light aircraft.

Have you seen him?

In this part of the Okavango, guests also have the opportunity to glimpse a sighting of the elusive Sitatunga antelope. The Sitatunga's favourite food is one of the papyrus grasses (Cyperus Papyrus) found floating on the currents.

Purpose-perfect

The Kubu Queen Houseboat is not a pretentious or luxurious boat and so it shouldn't be,
but it's absolutely purpose-perfect. It's very comfortable, workable and seething with
charm and character. My annual trip to the Okavango with Greg and his team is the fishing highlight of my year.
